Born in the 1950's to an artistic mother who was a poet, a painter and a composer as well as a gifted singer, he was raised in an artistic environment where at an early age he displayed a deep appreciation for the arts as well as a great sensibility for music, but it wasn't until he saw his second cousin Ritchie Valens, perform on American Bandstand that he started to appreciate the primal rhythmic energy of rock n' roll and by the time The Beatles came on the scene he knew that he needed to be part of all the excitement that was about to explode into a full cultural renaissance. His dad bought him his first acoustic guitar when he was 14 and by the time he was In high school he joined his first rock band at the age 16 which later that year they came in second place at a battle of the bands show in Apple Valley California. At the age of 17 after sending a demo of one of his early compositions to Goliath records, they became interested in his vocals and offered him to record a couple of songs from their publishing catalog to release as a 45, which he was not only grateful for the experience but also for the opportunity to record in one of the top 24 track studios in Hollywood at the time. In 1970 he joined a band by the name of "Snowtrack" playing bass guitar to a mix of blues rock and heavy rock covers at school auditoriums and local small clubs, but it wasn't until the band started showcasing some of his original songs, they began getting attention from some of the A&R scouts that use to comb through the clubs, but unfortunately before any offers were finalized, Ernest who had been evading the draft for about a year got ordered by a judge to either respond to his last induction notice or go to jail for draft evasion. Not wanting to go to prison for three to five years he reluctantly went for his induction, hoping he could fight his anti draft and anti war battles from inside the army which he did. In the fall of 1973 after a two year career detour and with his draft troubles finally behind him, he joined "Stonecross" as lead singer and second guitar, they were a heavy blues rock metal band, playing covers of old blues tunes in the style of Led Zeppelin and Humble Pie but after a couple of years of going against the glam rock current, which was in style in the clubs at the time and to much partying and excessive rock n' roll debauchery, they disbanded. In 1976, he started working for SIR where he came in contact with a wide variety of pro and semi pro musicians which led him to join "Dragon Fleet" which was a band put together by lead guitarist David Della Rossa who had been a member of "Bandit" during the time they were signed to ABC Dunhill Records, but eventually frustrated by not being allowed to contribute any ideas and having to play his parts pretty much the way they had been written. he left the band. From 1978 to 1979 he worked for Ronnie Wood as a guitar tech during the making of Ronnie's third solo album "Gimme Some Neck" Where he says Ronnie was very generous with his time when it came to explaining slide guitar and open tunings, It was the best university I could have ever attended, not only for being able to observe first hand how a professional artist goes about crafting his own album one track at a time but also the whole process of doing it in a 24 track studio with an engineer a producer and all of the musicians that played on that album from Keith Richards to Charlie Watts. In 1980 with a note pad full of original material and his newly gained knowledge in the studio, he put together The Urge and after attracting the interest of a manager and securing some backing, from 1981 to 1983 they recorded two albums "Hard Luck Hard Times" and "Street Dreamers Arcade" but after four years of working hard and not being able to brake through "The Urge" disbanded as well. Their last live performance was New Years eve 1984 where they were joined on stage by Mitch Mitchell and Terry Reid. In 1985 deciding not to put together or join any bands for awhile he started writing songs and working on demos in his home studio. In 1986 he helped in the production of "Carros Usados" a Mexico City based pop band of which members where the sons of international artist Jorge Castro. The album was later released by CBS international. In 1987 he helped Jorge Castro with his own album as well as on a EP for D.J./ singer Montserrat Castro for which he also wrote a song. In 1987 he wrote and arranged four songs for then actress Daniela Duran and in 1988 he scored the music for an independent film by Mexican satirist / screenwriter / director Hector Kiev. In 1990 his song "Con Fuego y Pasion" performed by actress / singer Daniela Duran was licensed for a playmate profile for the international video magazine "Playboy's Foreign Late Night" In 1991 it was licensed for "Girls of Spring Break" and for a Zalman King trailer and then later in 1998 for the feature film "Warm Texas Rain" starring Steven Bauer and Fred Dryer. In 1992 his song "Aint Nothin' In The World" Sung by Warner Brothers Music artist "Ramone Carter" was featured on "Hot Rocks" and in 1993 he was hired to replace the opening music for "Playboy's Land Of G'Day" from Men At Work's "Down Under" With hid own song "Land Of G'Day" which he wrote and performed himself, using the title of the program as a lyrical hook. Ernest Cain Salgado has writen over a hundred songs and in recent years he has recorded two albums "Tales From Highway 99" and "Saturday Night Women" he has also been working on an instrumental album called "Caravan Of Dreams" as well as two other rock albums of original songs "Angeleno Heights" and "Heartbreak On Main Street" He also has plans of digitizing the masters and remixing and re-issuing his both albums with "The Urge" "Hard Luck Hard Times" and "Street Dreamers Arcade"
