McGuire's compositions include the 3-act Peter Pan performed by Scottish Ballet and Hong Kong Ballet over 120 times, A Glasgow Symphony, the symphonic poems Calgacus and Source written for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and operas 'The Loving of Etain' (to a libretto by Marianne Carey) performed by Paragon Opera, 'Cake-Talk' for the RSNO Junior Chorus and Scottish National Orchestra and 'Helen of Braemore' for Country Opera and Northlands Festival.
The CD 'Eddie McGuire: Music for Flute, Guitar and Piano' on the Delphian label achieved 'Editor's Choice' in Gramophone Magazine in 2006. In 2015 the same label issued a retrospective album 'Entangled Fortunes' which was also featured as 'Editor's Choice' in the August 2015 edition.

He has been Featured Composer at Bath International Guitar Festival, International Viola Festival, Park Lane Series, Edinburgh International Harp Festival, Passau Guitar Festival and Loch Shiel Festival. Several concertos include those for viola, trombone, double bass, guitar and accordion. He received a British Composer Award in 2003.

He also performs on flute with The Whistlebinkies group (making several CDs with Greentrax Recordings) and on bamboo flute with Harmony Ensemble.
