The improv unit Dreamtime came together during a jam session in a friend's basement in London, 1982.
Nick Evans (trombone), Gary Curson (saxes), and Jim Lebaigue (drums), were happy with the raw intensity of the session and soon added trumpet player Jim Dvorak and bass player Roberto Bellatalla to make Dreamtime a quintet. Affinity released their debut, Bunny Up, in 1983 and the band took to touring the U.K. In 1985, pianist Keith Tippett came aboard and recorded an album with the band in 1986. The album sat in the can, unreleased, and it wasn't until 1998 and the Zen Fish album on Slam that record buyers got any Dreamtime to take home. In 2004, Hux Records released the lost- '86 sessions as Cathanger '86. ~ David Jeffries
