For Jonathon Davis, aka OBAE, it all started in the Sun Valley Projects.
OBAE was only two years old when his mother dropped him off on his aunts doorstep. His mother was always on the move and could not take care of her young child. As for his father, the man abandoned the young boy and his mother when he was only two months old; leaving OBAE without his natural birth parents. The only parental guidance OBAE would receive came from his aunt her children and the streets. OBAE’s aunt passed away when he was a young boy. The passing left OBAE under the guidance of his cousins. His cousins were like the brothers and sisters he never had, without any of his cousins having fathers in their lives either all they had was each other growing up. Without any sort of guidance in the streets of west Denver OBAE was heading no where fast. He was on the run his entire juvenile life, eluding the police, by the time he was thirteen he had all ready been in and out of juvenile hall and placed in group homes. The turmoil changed a young Jonathan, and made him grow up very young. OBAE and his cousins eventually got out of the projects. He started looking for an alternative. The young man found his alternative through music. He found a game on the playstation 1 called the Music Generator he began producing beats and writing raps off of this game, he started to show his beats and raps to people around town and it was not long before he was selling these beats and recording in the studio. The rest is history from there. OBAE said his whole life changed once he had his first daughter in 2005 it really made him click into gear and step it up to provide for his family. But sometimes it is hard to escape the reality of the streets in 2007 OBAE's family was torn apart when his 10 year old cousin was killed by a stray bullet. Burying his little cousin do to street violence has got to be the hardest thing he has ever had to do in his life, it was a rude awakening. (Rest in paradise Arualia Cisneros) Today, OBAE is becoming a feel good story. After All, the kid has gone through more turmoil and stress before the age of twenty seven then most people go through in a lifetime. At twenty-seven OBAE is starting to see his full potential. He is now producing instrumental beats for mainstream and local music artists, distributing several mix tapes and albums for his label, filming and editing music videos, he also designs all the graphic work for his entertainment label. In 2008 OBAE entered a nationwide rap contest and he was top 10 hand picked by super producers Cool and Dre out of 80,000 hip-hop contestants on Loud.com during this contest he was aired live on KS107.5 fm w/ Dj chonz and Hot 107.1 fm w/ Dj bedz just to name a few. OBAE has also worked with grammy nominated producer Jake one. And it does not stop there OBAE and his business partner are the creators of one of Denver's biggest facebook pages and media websites. OBAE and his label Dope City have opened for a whole slew of mainstream artist: Jim Jones, Lil Scrappy, waka flocka, trae the truth, paul wall, E-40, Too short, Scarface and The geto boys. They were also booked to perform at the 420 rally in front of 10,000 people. The list goes on forever. OBAE has also dabbled in promotion, he and his partner put together one of the biggest concerts for Cinco de mayo Denver has ever seen. "Waka De Mayo" Waka Flocka's first time in Denver over a 1000 people at the Legendary Hollywood legends. Not bad for their first concert as the lead promoters. OBAE and his team are definity on the road to victory. Dope City has a bright future ahead of them if they keep on the rate they are going it is only a matter of time before they are a nationwide mainstream label.
