Grammy reggae artist nominee 'Deyansa' was born august 11 in Clarendon
Jamaica. He is the oldest boy of eight children and grew up in a musician
family with his father being a singer as well. At the age of the 13 Deyansa
migrated to the United States where his love for music matured to get him
heard and played throughout the country. It was a long time friend of Deyansa who was the inspiration for his moniker
and soon to be famed name in reggae. For the last 25 years Deyansa has
moved his art form from battle clashing and participating with sound
systems to writing and recording his own music. In 1993 he began singing
professionally and has worked alongside well famed industry leaders such as sir Coxon Dodd and musician John Ford. Upon signing to the Natural
Resource Label, Deyanasa released singles on Gems Vol. 1 in the UK.
Another major accomplishment came for Deyansa in 2004 when he formed
the band ‘Deyansa and the High Roots. The band created such a buzz in the
scene that they caught the attention of the label Silver Kamel Audio. It was
under that very label where his Grammy Nominated creation ‘Holding On
To Life’ came to life.
His unique blend of reggae and r&b has made Deyansa a household name in Brooklyn where he is based. Deyansa is currently working on raising the bar even further, blending roots, pop and reggae together all soon to be released. His music has spread outside of NY to reach fans across the US and internationally. Deyansa has performed on several major shows including the summer storm tour opening for Gyptian and Merciless. Deyansa has also graced the stage with dancehall group Voicemail, Glen Washington and
King Yellowman at the ocean state reggae festival showing that there is no
show too big or too small for Deyansa to tackle.
Deyansa describes his stage personality and real life persona to be very
much alike. Simplicity is key with Deyansa and putting forth positive music
continues to be his ultimate goal. When Deyansa is not busy performing and writing music, he enjoys reading, meditation , running and writing.
No stranger to the press, Deyansa has also been featured on news 12
