History of Desire for Sorrow started in June 2009, even though the basis of the band was laid a few years before that.
Founding members Jiri Zika (Ziky - guitar) and Jan Pavlicek (Johny - keyboards), members of death metal band Pentamoan back then, decided, after break down of the band, to continue playing together. They found Roman Huszar (guitar) and Karel Burian (drums). In this lineup the band rehearses for over an year. After Karel's departure, drums position is some time empty. In that time, Jan Nirnberg (Bimbo - drums) comes to fill this gap. Band gets a name and starts to compose new material, which takes the path of Melodic black metal. At the beginning of the year 2010, last member of the band comes in - Karel Vlášek (Vlajda - bass)

In June 2010, Desire for Sorrow closes themselves in Hellsound studio for a few days to record dem CD called "Angels of Revenge". Demo gets positive reviews and so DfS are starting to do more gigs in clubs and at festivals. In 2010, Roman departs to America for studies and band finds themselves withoud a second guitar. This place is temporarily taken by Jirka Kasl (A5) and the band once again play in complete lineup on lots of gigs and is composing new material.

After Roman's returny the preparations of the first long-playing album are getting in motion. The band records this CD called "At Dawn of Abysmal Ruination" at SOPA studio in June 2013. Shotly after that, Ruman again departs for Americe, this time for a few years and leaves the band. After some time, his place is taken by Infernits (ex. Avenger).

The debut full-length album At Dawn of Abysmal Ruination is released on 20.4.2014 along with the czech magazine "Pařát". In the same year at April, Desire for Sorrow wins a prestige czech band contest MetalGate massacre. As a part of this win, the band gets the opportunity to perform at the MetalGate Czech Death Fest. DfS also organizes first edition of their own festival called "End of All Nights".

In March 2015, DfS finishes their first European tour, which is not atended by guitarist Infernits for personal reasons. His place is temporarily replaced by Marek "Frodys" Pytlík (Awrizis, Postcards from Arkham). Shortly after the tour, Infernits departs the band for good. Almost immidietly, a search for a new guitarist starts and after few weeks of auditions, the rhythm guitar post is filled by Marek "Horvi" Horváth. With new blood in bands ranks, DfS raises their activity once again and visit a Metalgate recording studio at December 2015 to record three new songs. Meanwhile, the band is preparing second edition of the End of All Nights festival for 2016.
