With their debut release "Through the Eyes of the Burdened", Descend bursts onto the scene with an album that is as hard hitting as it is diverse.
The songs are crafted and performed with expert musicianship, combining technical brilliance with strong song writing skills. From the opening acoustic mood setter "Ascend to Obscurity" to heavy riff-fests such as "The Life Delusion" or "A Sudden Sense of Clarity", Descend shows in every way possible that the band is a force to consider in the modern metal scene of today.

"We really wanted to make an album that feels like a unity", guitarist and founding member Andreas Lindström explains. "I think we managed to make music that is dynamic and keeps the listener interested, while not losing the impact in the songs".

While their roots are in death metal leaning to the progressive side, Descend is not just about brute force. They switch seamlessly between heavy riffs and growled vocals, to delicate acoustic grooves and memorable melodies. The music always comes first and when it comes to Descend, it shines with variety and tasteful dynamics.

"We all love metal", drummer Jonathan Persson says, "but at the same time we love to experiment and take influences from other styles as well".

The soft spoken drummer has become known as one of the best drummers in the band's native country Sweden, and has taken his jaw-dropping playing to the next level on this record.

The album was recorded at Escape Route Studios in Essex, UK, and the studio was the perfect choice for the band to get the album done. The production is excellent and every member is playing at the top of their game.

"I booked us there since I figured it would be good for us to go out of Sweden to record", says bassist Justin Biggs. "It kind of took us out of our comfort zone, which was a good thing. We could really focus on just making the record while we were there."

Founded back in 2003, Descend was quite a different band back then. They started out as a thrash metal band, but some member changes and new musical influences made the band evolve into what it is today. Prior to the debut album, three self released demos were recorded, receiving great response in the underground metal scene. It was their release from 2009, "The Reckoning", that landed them a record deal with Supernova Records.
