Born into a creatively adept family of musicians, craftsmen and karaoke fanatics, David was brought up to be musically inclined. His grandfather and grandmother thought him how to play piano from a young age. It was only a short period of time until he got into singing and playing guitar, often playing his step-grandfathers 12-string sitting on his window sill looking out into the back yard.
When he was 14, David performed in a school karaoke. The school music teacher got him involved with a school band, where he would perform as lead singer. In the last year of school, David started teaching music volunteering in primary schools and also performing in order to help build his confidence and stage presence. College years passed, friends and family came and went, and life got more and more difficult. This was the final touch that made him into a multi-musician and songwriter as he developed a taste for acoustic music with well tendered lyrics.
David has a lot of passion for his song writing, often harnessing emotions from his past and putting his feelings down on paper.
To truly know about where his music came from though, you have to look into the lyrics he writes about and the passion that he plays in his music. The combination of a strong family unit born from less than favourable situations with his father resulted in ensuing court cases. The reason that David aims to become the best is because of his want to know that his step-grandfather Tommy Thompson would have been proud. The constant feeling of failure and lack of confidence often caused him to falter at times, but when he becomes a recognised singer and song writer that is when he will be more secure of his music position. It is this drive that brought him to get into music so diligently from a young age onwards.
Dave first started Red Dreams in 2009 volunteering as a vocal coach. The new step was nerve racking but exciting. Not being to used to the large social atmosphere was daunting and sometimes intimidating when people. His presence soon become known when he came into his own, although coaching was a back seat role for him, David became a large part of the performing team of Red Dreams and learned how to make music count. Even today, he strives to be the best in the unit and in the town, hoping to one day make a career out of his craft and for family and pride.
