As president and founder of Valeo Films/Undersea Expeditionary Video, David’s skills include technical diver, content producer and shark behaviorist.
David's passion for his work and his performance as an Underwater Camera Operator, AD, UPM, Line Producer, Writer, Director and Producer have earned him the respect of his colleagues as well as the industry at large. David is also very enthusiastic about speaking at conventions, museums, schools, universities, group meetings and dive clubs.
As co-founder of Trident Global Imaging, David specializes in designing innovative photography and post-production processes to capture and create terrestrial and submerged imagery in hard-to-reach locations, including underwater shipwrecks, cave systems and other venues.
As The Shark Whisperer, David works to enlighten and inform audiences about our oceans, the creatures within them and the now widely-recognized realization that we must do everything within our power to safeguard them. He is recognized as The Shark Whisperer because of his ability to effectively communicate with sharks using widely recognized large animal behavior techniques.
David was featured on “The Quest for Sunken Warships,” a series for Discovery Networks’ Military Channel and on the History Channels "MysteryQuest."
As a Nuclear Field Machinist's Mate in the US Navy in the lead-up to and during the first weeks of the Persian Gulf War, David served on the ballistic nuclear missile submarine SSBN-656 George Washington Carver. Responsible for the nuclear reactor that provided energy to the ship, David especially enjoyed the specialized cross-training he undertook to run every major system on the boat. In the Army National Guard, David excelled at Advanced Infantry Training, uniquely undertaken with a Special Forces unit. During his military tenure, David received the National Defense Service Medal for serving the United States honorably during a time of war or national emergency.
