Jesse Mills' music is a mix of 30's vaudeville jazz, Sun rockabilly, and the 70's folk of people like Harry Nilsson and Paul Simon.

He was born at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in the tiny town of Nazareth, Pennsylvania- for years an important rock 'n roll landmark due to its role as home to the venerable Martin guitar factory and the setting for The Band's song, "The Weight".

He hails from a musical background, raised by spaced-out hippie parents in the late 70's ("My middle name is Ian, after the Jethro Tull guy"), and two grandfathers who were both musicians, one who played jazz trombone, and the other who was something of a local country star.

"I guess he had a pretty bad drinking problem, because my grandmother left him for his bass player. And the bass player is who I grew up thinking was my grandfather. Grandad quit playing music not long after all that..."

Lured by the thrum of mid-90's bands like the Breeders and Nirvana, and the swing of bandleaders like Louis Prima, Jesse picked up the music habit when he was 16 and hasn't stopped playing since.

His music has been praised by such disparate fans as Chris Barron from the Spin Doctors and Evan Dando of the Lemonheads... not to mention psych-pop legends "The Apples in Stereo" who have been to this page for a listen.

Chris Barron called his song 'Cats Are' "genius" and Evan Dando liked him enough to invite him on tour- twice- where they flopped on couches, played living rooms, clubs and matinees, joining on stage to duet on the classic Louvin Bros tune "When I Stop Dreaming"

"No lie, I was living in a tent in Golden Gate Park and singing in the subways when Evan asked me to tour with him. That guy was like, my teenage hero, so it doesn't get much better than that. That's like the guy who owns the place giving you the keys to the toyshop.

'Here, run around, make some noise, tomorrow we play Brooklyn.' "

Jesse vows to keep singing, entertaining and creating- despite his dire lack of organization or clean socks most of the time.

He lists Brian Wilson and Danny Elfman, as well as old horror films, as his biggest inspirations.
