One of the many bands to blur the line between hardcore punk, emo, and heavy metal, New England natives Crowne Vict began to create quite a buzz by the turn of the century.
Started in 1997 by former members of Everdown and Big John Studd, the band was a loosely held-together trio consisting of guitarist John Helmig, guitarist David Ball, and drummer John Becht. The three auditioned several other members and suffered through problems such as stolen gear and lost rehearsal spaces before 1999 rolled around. It was then when they discovered vocalist Chris Greene and bassist Brian Silvia through auditions. The five-some began intense rehearsals and shaped up their sound until they were prepared to begins promoting their music. It started at the Vans Warped Tour, where they managed to get an appearance when it came through New England. Next came a spot on a Limp Bizkit showcase in New York City, where they drove out to the gig despite not knowing if they won the contest until halfway into the drive. Scoring them several high-profile tours since, the band managed to get gigs with artists like Staind, Powerman 5000, and P.O.D. in the meantime. ~ Bradley Torreano
