In 2012, Zach Lopez and Sebashtian Castaneda got together and started a metal band.
Originally called "Dawn By Sundown" (soon changed to "Dawn By Nightfall" to get a better metal feel) they invited Ruben Gomez to join them on drums. With a lot of confusion about their name, Zach changed the name to "Canopus". While in the process of writing their title song, Jordan Ibarra joined the band. With Sebashtian and Ruben's departure, Canopus had a few fill-in drummers including Jacob Diaz of Severator. While in their senior year of high school, Will Rojas and Cazmir Nishi joined the band, becoming the fourth drummer and first official bassist of Canopus. With this lineup, "Garage Trials" was written and released. Soon after, they joined the Dunton Family and began to record their EP.
