In 1989 he moved to London where he spent 20 yrs rubbing shoulders with many of the greatest names in the music business.

He performed live at many famous venues including the famous Rock Garden in Covent Garden and also Wembley Arena! He also played the Notting Hill Gate open air Oxfam charity gig along with “Take That” at a time when he performed as “Samson the fairy sex father” This performance in fact gained him the nightly news television exposure instead of the then unknown “Take That!”

Basil soon gained representation from celebrated agent and manager Mr Tony Nunn.

Tony was a very well connected manager whose impressive career had him taking care of, and working with acts such as “The Who”, “Ozric Tentacles” , “Ray Davies” , “David Bowie” , “Stanley Baxter” and many more. Tony was also a very well known west end agent and worked closely with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

In 1994 Tony arranged for Basil to release his first album “Mindfield” on Snapper. The album subsequently sold around 50 000 copies.

As the mobile phone boom appeared around this time, Basil’s health (which had been an issue all along) started to fail badly. His weight dramatically increased and he developed heart issues. Around the end of the 1990’s Basil was an astonishing 36 stones in weight. It was around this time he became largely housebound. He needed a new way to become creative from home.

CP BAZzZMAN

Basil re-invented himself as “Content Producer -BAZzZMAN” He spent an incredible amount of time recording a huge catalogue of ringtones in the form of “Crazy Tones” Before long he had achieved 26 Global distribution contracts. This experience would give him a harsh lesson in international legalities!

CP BAZzZMAN became one of the biggest names in mobile content. The companies he submitted his work to started aggregating to other companies and before long he lost complete control over his catalogue! The result was, that despite being probably the most “bluetoothed” man in the world, the income certainly didnt reflect it! Trying to collect money from international companies required good legal representation. This is expensive so Basil had to let this go.

Basil also had his intellectual productivity dubiously exploited by the famous “Jamba” who released the “crazy frog” Basil suggested in conversation that maybe it would be a good idea to create the worlds first virtual DJ and have the crazy frog re-released with a catchy dance track. After suggesting this Jamba went very quiet. 2 months later they released DJ Crazy with the famous Axel F theme tune. Basil cancelled his contracts with Jamba as a result and never saw a penny.

After this Basil relocated to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

His health was becoming worse but he still tried to do what he loved most by creating new music. His next album release “Dancing for the money man” became available on all good download portals however; was never promoted due to ill health.

Seriously believing he would soon be checking out of hotel Earth, Basil finally caved into pressure from his family to try X Factor. Although very challenged by pain and limited mobility he decided to give it a go. It would be the last effort at real exposure for his great vocal ability. In 2013 Basil had to undergo a life saving operation to reduce his weight.

Since then he has halved his body weight but has been left very challenged by arthritis. The yrs of pressure on his joints finally caught up.

Despite this daily painful challenge and various other health issues he continues to be creative, write music & try to help the world through intelligent song writing

He currently produces his own music from his base in the Yorkshire Dales. He also works with the amazingly talented and highly respected Dutch producer Frank Pels (Womack & Womack). He is committed to using his musical skills to deliver his greatest observations and learning from a difficult life to those who wish to draw from his experience. X Factor 2011 (year of ‘little mix’)

Basil received UK national exposure during the X Factor 2011 competition. Singing a powerful rocky version of ‘House of the rising sun’ by the Animals, he blew the judges away and gained a strong 4 yesses.

Basil was weighing in at the time at 33 stones and was significantly challenged by his obesity. He was tipped as a potential winner until his heart let him down during boot camp. Basil in fact collapsed and had to be attended by paramedics. He had a serious SVT attack. It was clear he couldn’t really continue and at the next filtering session he was let go from the show.

Basil has good memories of his time at the X Factor

including;

working with Olly Murs, Kelly Rowland, Tulsa & in particular, singing at a grand piano on stage at Wembley arena with Gary Barlow. The greatest experience was singing to an audience of some 8000 people!

Sealand national anthem ‘E Mare Libitas’ Latin: from the sea freedom’

Basil Simon is noted in the classical world for his stunning composition that became the Sealand national anthem. The commission was issued by Prince Michael and Basil was subsequently awarded an Honorary title of ‘Lord’ for his work. The composition has since been released worldwide on a classical CD named ‘Anthems of the world’ The piece has also been performed by Orchestras worldwide.

Sealand is a micronation off the coast of eastern UK.

Rehousing ‘Lenny’ in Enfield north London

After finding “Lenny the tramp” living in a bus stop in Lancaster rd North London, Basil released a song to raise money to raise awareness of his situation with a view toward rehousing him. Basil established that Lenny had been badly let down by local authorities who had failed to realise his mental state. Basil observed Lenny over a period of a month. He tried to help him by offering his own home as refuge but Lenny was challenged by panic attacks and psychological issues related to territorial attachment. After writing a ten page report on Lenny’s mental state, local MP Joan Ryan supported Basil’s efforts to help. In turn local authorities were forced to reassess. The campaign gained support from the BBC, channel 5, Sky, The Big Issue, Manchester Evening News & many more UK publications. The campaign went international after ARD Germany sent a camera crew to cover the story. After 29 yrs of homelessness Lenny was finally rehoused.
