Under the influence of the early SST Records sound of The Minutemen, Husker Du and Dinosaur Jr., Bacon Ray took their own quirky power-pop influence -on top of their ZZ Top and Chicago cover- and hit their home of Tallahassee, Florida when they got together in 1994.
Upon the release of two self-produced demos and two seven inch EP (1995's Tomfoolery and the split with Nel Aspinal the following year), AAJ Records hooked them up with some financial support for the 1998 full-length The Golden Master. The next year, Bacon Ray's second album The Swab was released with the same sound in which the band self-describes as "like a clown car running over your head." ~ Mike DaRonco
