Assai is a collaboration between brothers James and Tom Devlin, and singer/songwriter Christina Mullany.
The group was originally started by Tom and James as a duet, but expanded in early 2008 when a musical rapport developed between Christina and the brothers.

In mid 2008 the trio asked long time friend Stuart Hope to join the band on bass guitar, which he agreed to do with a refreshing enthusiasm.

Then came Simon, who the band asked to drum with them as they prepared for a recording, and who after a few very successful gigs (including winning their heat of the lllawarra Mercury Bluescope Band Competition), was quite suddenly an accepted member of the band.

In March 2009, the band recorded four of their songs as part of a self-titled EP. These songs are featured on their Myspace website.

With song writing duties shared between all five members of Assai, drawing on a wide range of influences, a unique “Assai” sound soon developed. The lyrical content is a thoughtful but at times light-hearted look into the heart of the human experience.

The band performed their last gig in late 2009 at the annual Mercury Bluescope Band Competition in Wollongong.

Assai is currently on an indefinite hiatus.
