It's an emotional take on the track...

Lorde delivered an emotional rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Sound of Silence’ as she performed at a benefit concert to raise money for the victims of last month’s Christchurch mosque attack.

The ‘Melodrama’ singer was a special guest at the You Are Us/Aroha Nui benefit concert at the Christchurch Stadium on Wednesday evening. After opening her brief appearance with a performance of ‘Team’ from her debut ‘Pure Heroine’, she was joined by fellow New Zealander to perform the seminal Simon & Garfunkel track. You can watch both performances below.

The performance also marked Lorde’s first appearance since November 2018, having concluded touring duties for her acclaimed second album ‘Melodrama’.

While details of a third record are yet to emerge, she previously teased that it’ll see her heading in a piano-led direction.

“I haven’t started properly on the next record yet, and I’m not sure how long it’ll be,” she wrote in a newsletter to fans.

“But I’ve been teaching myself how to play piano, and here and there little bits come out. I think this next one will probably be born around the piano in my house, me and my friends, keeping it simple… But know that for now I’m happy here at home, living quietly and simply, eating toast, going for walks, swimming. And you’ll hear all about it soon enough.”
