The new album arrives on Friday

This weekend saw Chvrches kick off their 2018 world tour and debut songs from their upcoming new album, ‘Love Is Dead’. Check out footage and the setlist below.

Performing in Toronto at Danforth Music Hall, this was the band’s first full show with new member Johnny Scott on drums. While a career-spanning set, their performance also leaned heavily on their new album. As well as airing previously performed new songs ‘Get Out’, ‘Never Say Die’ and ‘Miracle’ they also played ‘ii’, ‘Graffiti’, ‘Just A Thing’ and ‘God’s Plan’ for the first time – the latter featuring Martin Doherty on lead vocals.

Chvrches setlist was:

Get Out
Bury It
Gun
We Sink
Graffiti
Lies
Under the Tide
God’s Plan
Miracle
Never Ending Circles
Tether
Forever
Recover
Leave a Trace
Never Say Die
Encore:
The Mother We Share
Clearest Blue

As well as showcasing their more pop-driven and direct sound, the addition of Scott on drums has added a three-dimensional rock element to their live sounds. Check out some old favorites from the show below.

Speaking to NME about the band’s upcoming third album, ‘Love is Dead’, Mayberry praised the recent rise in people speaking out and protesting as a positive amid widespread political tension.

Mayberry said: “As much as we talk about the negative things that are floating around the world right now, I do think that that stuff galvanises people and sparks change.”

Referring to the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump, Mayberry said: “I don’t know if we would have something like the Women’s March if not for the fact that there’s an unpunished sexual predator in office.”

Prior to the 2016 US presidential election, a recording of Trump saying he would “Grab [women] by the pussy,” was released to widespread condemnation.

Their new album ‘Love Is Dead’ is out on May 25.
