There are still two more winters to get through before Frozen 2

There are still two more winters to get through before Frozen 2 arrives in theaters in 2019, but work on the highly anticipated sequel is about to heat up.

Jonathan Groff, who voiced Kristoff in the original Frozen and the upcoming featurette Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (which will run in front of Pixar’s Coco this fall), told EW he’d soon be back in the recording studio for the next installment in the Disney Animation saga.

During an interview about 36 Questions, an upcoming podcast musical in which he stars, the two-time Tony nominee gave an update on where things stand for Frozen 2. “I think I just got an email yesterday where I’m about to go into the recording studio in a couple of weeks, or maybe a month?” he said. “They’re about to really get into the thick of recording it, which I’m excited about. I don’t know anything about it yet other than I’m about to start recording my section of it.”

Despite not knowing anything about the story (being kept “totally lock and key”), Groff is thrilled to be teaming back up with the foursome behind the first Frozen — directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

“I’m just excited that I’m in it [laughs], you know? Excited to be in it and that creative team is also just so amazing, so I’m excited to get back in a room with them and play around.… The four of them are such an awesome team and I really, really love them.”

Frozen 2 will be released on Nov. 27, 2019. For more from Groff about 36 Questions — which debuts its first installment this Monday — check back to EW.com in the coming days.
