When Disney Channel premieres its sinister sequel Descendants 2, viewers can expect a hefty helping of more villains, more high school-based teenage angst, and way more musical numbers.

The cast of Descendants 2 stopped by the EW studios to offer a handful of teases ahead of the July 21 premiere of their sequel, which finds Maleficent’s daughter, Mal (Dove Cameron), conflicted about her new role as beau to the charming royal son of Belle and the Beast, Ben (Mitchell Hope).

Sofia Carson (Evie), Cameron Boyce (Carlos), and Booboo Stewart (Jay) pick up where they left off in the 2015 movie — as Auradon’s fairly well-adjusted exports from the Isle of the Lost. New cast member China Anne McClain — playing Uma, daughter of Ursula — joined the trio to share stories about the making of the TV sequel, first day jitters, and a certain Michael Jackson-inspired musical number that could just be your teen’s new song of summer.
