Rowling’s beloved series. 2017 is shaping up to be a fine follow-up, however: Not only does this year mark the 20th anniversary of the original U.K. publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, it’s also bringing a healthy slate of new Harry Potter books this fall.
Two of these new books will come out of A History of Magic, the British Library’s new Harry Potter exhibition set to run from this October through February of next year. According to The Globe and Mail, one book will be titled Harry Potter: A History of Magic — The Book of the Exhibition, and will finally walk readers through some of the actual subjects studied by Harry and his friends at Hogwarts. Harry Potter — A Journey Through A History of Magic will explore the other elements of Rowling’s magical universe, especially less understood varieties of magic like alchemy and witchcraft.
The third book coming this fall is the illustrated edition of the original third novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Like the previous illustrated editions for Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, this version of Prisoner of Azkaban will be illustrated by Jim Kay. It’s due out Oct. 3, 2017.
