Being awesome runs in her family.

Hometown: Beijing China

How would you describe your music to people who had never heard it before?

I would say that it’s really hard to categorize. I listen to a lot of different types of music and I use different elements ran raw in the music that I write. But I think when it comes to arrangement, I really like to have fun with it. Then you know automatically I do still have the pop element in my music, I think it’s presented in the melody, so I think it’s just like a fusion of a few different raw music and pop melodies.

Tell us about “River Run” and your latest music endeavors.

“River Run” was actually a track that The Invisible Man threw out to me. They recently put together this track, said they thought it really suits me, so I listen to it and I loved it. I wrote a top melody and some lyrics, which I had trouble with at the beginning because I don’t really know what to write about. And then one day I remember of going a lunch with a bunch of people and I realize when I was looking at their phones and that’s sort of how “River Run” came out.

As right now I’m working on my second album which I hope to release by June or July, if everything goes smoothly. I have been just working on it for the past few months, I did go to the States at the beginning of the year, I did some shows there, it was really great, and I’ve never played in the States before.

For someone who has never been to one of your shows, what can they expect from you as a performer?

I think as a performer, I am still going through a learning process, and I will always be learning. I’m sort of working towards being more energetic and expressive on the stage, but as right now I think whenever I perform, I get really suck in the music and I really focused that sometimes I might forget to move around more. I’m still working on it. I think the crowd is the best judge of what is like, I can’t really tell you exactly because I’m the one that giving the performance.

Who are some of your musical influences? What aspects of their music drew you to them and in what ways did they inspire you?

I have a lot of musical influences. I actually believed that every single song that I’ve heard and every artist influences me. In one way or another, whether or not I realize it. I think it all stored in subconscious. A few ones that I can name or remember clearly are probably bands like Portishead, Massive Attack, Michael Jackson, Lana Del Rey, Frente!, Goldfrapp, and a lot of late-1980s and early-1990s music. And I can’t quite put a finger on what exactly are the aspects of their music that drew my attention, probably the arrangement and melodies.

That inspires me the most was all of the artist that I have a lot of respect for is like how they are so creatively free and they're willing to try different things and they always make the music that they want to make, I think it’s very special to me.

What was that defining moment when you knew you were meant to create music and how did you go about it?

I don’t think there is a defining moment, I think there’s something accumulated, and this will just built up little by little. It took quite a while for me to realize what exactly I wanted to do in music. I’ve known for very long time that I loved music, it’s sort of filtering out a lot of things and knowing exactly which field that I wanted to participate in.

How did your unique sound come about?

I think this is something that I don’t do consciously. when I’m making music I have these different ideas, there wasn’t this whole process when I designed the sound, it was more like I just went with my feelings and put in a lot of different ideas which I think were draw from the subconscious which stores pretty much all the music that I’ve ever listened to. I believe that when I write music, essentially it’s a matter of drawing on different elements and different types of music that I’ve heard before, and then combining that with my own toucher, whatever it is and what comes out is my sound I guess.

What's the songwriting process like?

For me it’s something almost like a habit, I don’t do it every day, but it’s definitely something that allows me to sort of express myself, not necessarily to other people but just a habit. I can sort out my emotions and feelings that are stored in me. I like to listening to a lot of music before I start writing my own, I usually go to the studio and I just start listening to a lot of music with my co-producer, we talk, and then we start playing around with different ideas. It’s very fun process for me and something I enjoy a lot.

As a designer and contributor to fashion, what was it like to collaborate your visions alongside brands like Gucci and Beats?

I’d probably say that I’m interested and willing to learn, and I enjoy witnessing these people and their creations, but when it comes to my participation in fashion, I’m still try to put all my focus on music rather than spreading it out on a lot of things. But in the future, definitely fashion is something that I will consider really going to learn about.

What's in store for 2017?

First of all I’d probably say my second album, that’s what I’ve been working on mostly this year so far, and other than that I’d love to get out there and play more shows and maybe more collaborations this year. New music, new performances, new shows, lots of exciting things in store.

If there's one thing you wish everyone to know about you or your music, what would it be?

I don’t think there is anything that I want to state out specifically. If there had to be one thing, then probably I just want more people to be able to hear my music. You know all I want to do is share my music with everyone, that’s really what I care about, and making the music that I want to make, having complete creative freedom when it comes to making music.
