The London screening of the Dark Universe movie was cancelled after the Manchester terror attack.

Tom Cruise led the cast of The Mummy up the red carpet at the film’s premiere in Madrid on Monday (May 29) following the cancellation of the London screening in the wake of last week’s Manchester terror attack.

Cruise accompanied co-stars Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella to the Madrid screening to mark the launch of the reboot of the classic 1990s franchise, released on June 9, as anticipation of one of the summer’s biggest blockbuster releases reaches fever pitch. Here’s the latest.

What did Tom Cruise get up to at the Madrid premiere of The Mummy?

Having taken time out to visit Athletico Madrid’s stadium to be presented with his own team shirt, everyone’s favourite sofa bouncer hit The Mummy’s first official screening in a dapper blue suit, taking copious selfies with fans and helping Wallis navigate the carpet in her trip-happy dress. What a charmer, eh?

Why was The Mummy UK screening cancelled?

After 22 people were killed in a terror attack on an Ariana Grande show at the Manchester Arena last week, Universal decided to pull the UK premiere of The Mummy, which had ben scheduled for June 1. “All of us at Universal have been devastated by the terror attack in Manchester,” a statement read. “Out of respect to those affected by this tragedy we have decided not to move forward with the London premiere for The Mummy.” The UK premiere of Wonder Woman was also axed.

Are there new pictures from the set?

There sure are. Empire magazine have released exclusive pics of Boutella’s barely-wrapped titular monster alongside an interview with director Alex Kurtzman discussing the depths behind the double-eyed beastie.

“The thing I’ve been focused on more than anything is that she has a really good reason to be where she’s at,” he said. “If we can relate to her, and experience that weird, confusing Universal feeling you get of loving and caring about the monster, then hopefully I will have succeeded.”

Are there any reviews of The Mummy?

Not yet, so let’s hear from the man himself, Tom Cruise, interviewed ahead of the Australian premiere on May 22. “We created this character of Nick who’s a thief,” he told Sky News in Australia, “he releases the Mummy thinking he’s gonna get some profit from it, and little did he know he got something but not what he expected, you’re taken on this massive adventure.” But how many thumbs up, Tom?
