Kevin Spacey returns as Frank Underwood in House of Cards Season 5.

House of Cards is a Netflix Original series that stars Kevin Spacey as politician Frank (Francis) Underwood and Robin Wright as Claire Underwood. Based on a BBC miniseries, also called House of Cards, the show has been running for four seasons. The show premiered in 2013 and was notable for the manner of its launch.

While it wasn’t the first show to be released in bulk by the streaming giant, it was the most high profile. It was also the first show whose structure was based around binge watching. The first episode segues perfectly into the second without missing a beat in the monologue delivered by Underwood.

What is the House of Cards Season 5 Release Date?

Season five of House of Cards will be released on May 30, 2017. With Frank Underwood well and truly into his Presidential term, this season looks likely to be explosive.

The new series was announced via the House of Cards Twitter account on January 20, 2017. If that date rings a bell, it was the same day that President Trump was inaugurated. It won the respect of the Twittersphere for its timely deployment.

Is there a full House of Cards Season 5 Trailer?

In short, yes. There is. Would you like to see it?

The trailer, released in early May 2017, is a haunting depiction of a Presidency gone bad. Tyranny has set in like rot in the Oval Office. Looking at the Star Spangled Banner cast upside down and devoid of the usual stars that represent the 50 US states is a jarring reminder of what happens when a Presidency is left to run loose.

Spacey delivers a speech laced with derision for the American people. He describes them as, “little children [with] sticky fingers and… filthy mouths.” He seems intent on breaking the fundamental two-term Presidency principal of the largest democracy in the world, and seems to have his sights set on elections in 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032 and 2036. Hs campaigns will run under the snappy but terrifying slogan, “One Nation, Underwood”.

Who Makes Up The House of Cards Season 5 Cast?

Frank Underwood Frank Underwood played by Kevin Spacey

The main character is of course Frank (Francis) Underwood, played to perfection by the ever-impeccable Kevin Spacey. He plays an ambitious Democratic politician with designs on the top job. He has won multiple awards for his role, as well as for his producer accreditation in the series.

Claire Underwood Claire Underwood is played by Robin Wright

Robin Wright plays Claire Underwood, Frank’s wife, an equally ambitious lobbyist. Wright, too, has won awards for her depiction of Claire, including Best Actress awards at the Golden Globes. Many fair and fitting comparisons have been made between her and Lady Macbeth (the picture above even styles her with blood on her hands), in the way she pulls many of the strings that drive Frank himself.

Doug Stamper

Doug Stamper played by Michael Kelly

Doug Stamper is Frank Underwood’s loyal sidekick. He is played by Michael Kelly with an unflinching coolness that borders on sociopathy. Few know more about Frank and few hold the same power to disrupt his presidential bids, so Stamper is definitely one to keep a close eye on.

Will Conway Will Conway played by Joel Kinnaman

Acting as the antagonist to Frank, Conway is the Republican Presidential Candidate. Played by Joel Kinnaman, Conway represents a strong challenge to Frank in Season 4. His role is set to continue in Season 5. As a young, happily married father of two, with time served in the United States Air Force, his values and life experience are a direct threat to Frank a middle-aged, career politician with marital troubles and no children. But underneath the gloss of Conway there is a similarly calculating political player.
