The London-based Aussies talk band beginnings and what's on their musical horizon.

Star Kendrick and Toma Banjanin have been friends for years. But their friendship went to a new level when the two Australian artists started writing songs together. After collaborating for a while, singer Kendrick, and Banjamin, who plays guitar and produces, realized that their dreamy pop sound was something to put out into the world. And soon Geowulf was born. And now the duo has dropped a few singles, "Saltwater," "Won't Look Back" and "Don't Talk About You," which have been gaining momentum on Spotify. Geowulf spoke with us about how they started, their growing success and what's next.

Hometown:
Sunshine Coast, Australia

Homebase(s): London and Noosa, Queensland, Australia

How did the band get together?

We're old friends and started writing together for some fun. Evolved from there.

Talk about the first song you wrote together.

A track called "Get You". It started off as a Solange-esque tropicana pop track that we did mainly for some fun. We've revisited it now and it's actually going to be on our upcoming album, which is cool.

What's the story behind the band name?

[Star Kendrick] was living in Sweden and liked the idea of a Scandinavian sounding name. Also [she] wanted something that created a bit of a contrast to [her] "girly" sounding voice. [Laughs.]

What is "Don't Talk About You" about?

Watch out for dat playaaaaaaa!

Take us back to when you found out that "Saltwater" raked in 4 million streams on Spotify. Where were you? How did it feel?

This was just the other day! Super weird. I think when we crossed the one million it felt like, "Wow cool, people are into this!" So that's nice.

You lived in various cities around the world. How do you feel these places have influenced your sound and songwriting?

Maybe less the places themselves but more so the moving around. I suppose the lyrics reflect some of the different countries we've individually been based in as well.

You guys have put a couple of songs out and have been performing. But when will we get new music or even an album?

Next track out this month! Album in this year.

What's next for Geowulf?

Few shows this spring and heading into the studio over the summer to get the album under way.
