Michelle, Furious 8 is the first American film to shoot in Cuba in decades. How was Havana?

Michelle Rodriguez: I loved Havana. The spirit of the people is so great. No matter how tough it is for them, at the end of the day it doesn’t stop them from enjoying life and celebrating it.

Villains become allies in these films. Is there any chance that Charlize Theron can join the family in the future?

MR: What she does in this movie is unforgivable. She puts the “B” in bad.

Charlize, with this, Atomic Blonde and Mad Max: Fury Road, you play the most awesome of action movie characters. Why the sudden joy of action movies?

Charlize Theron: I’ve always been interested in the genre and haven’t had that many opportunities to explore it. I like storytelling through the physical. I think it’s a misconception that women can’t do these movies and so I was lucky to do a movie like Atomic Blonde and Fate of the Furious.

Do you see Cipher as a different brand of villain?

CT: She doesn’t think anything that she’s doing is wrong. She’s a psychopath [laughs]! Some of the stuff she does in the movie is brutal.

Vin, how did you feel with Dom turning his back on his family?

VD: When you come out of Furious 7, you have to have something groundbreaking. Nothing is more groundbreaking than Dom going rogue. For seven films he’s been talking the talk about family. Now we need to see him walk the walk. The movie challenges the faith of the family on screen, but [also] the faith of the family off screen.

So, is Furious 8 the start of a trilogy?

VD: The studio always encouraged me to design these films with a trilogy in mind. So, before we went into 8, we had to think about what 9 and 10 would be. That’s just good episodic storytelling.
