There’s a new pop warrior in town with a brand new record.
It took you a couple of years to release a proper album. How does this record reflect your creative journey?
Well this record took 2 years to write. Victor Lau and I switched producers three times before deciding to do it all ourselves. Sometimes it's hard to transmit the feelings and sounds you want to create to a third person. Nothing against the producers is just that this record was particularly personal for me. It coincided with my change in consciousness and a spiritual awakening I've gone through. This concept is reflected in the lyrics and the music videos themselves.
What songs stand out on the record and why?
FRAGMENTS: There is something beautiful in every heartbreak. You always come out stronger and wiser after going through the pain. You can see this concept portrayed in the brand new music video for "Fragments". Fragments is the third video of a trilogy that stared with "Next Life", continued with "Van Gogh" and now concluded with "Fragments", all the singles from my Parousia record.
BLUE SUNSET: The song was inspired by a past life memory of a long lost love.
DANCING WITH WOLVES: Because I find strength in being wild and not tamed.
What's the meaning of the record's title? Why did you decide to go Greek?
Parousia is an ancient greek word which means "presence" or "arrival". It seemed like a fitting title for all the self-growth i've had through the writing process and this being my first full length record. The word also has a spiritual connotation meaning "second coming". This also seemed fitting for me to push the concept of the divine feminine, which is the new energy that's arriving to change the world.
You surely look like a badass pop warrior on the LP's cover. So what are you fighting for with most passion?
Yeah! Thank you. I'm definitely a light warrior. In the cover I'm dressed like an ancestral princess from the Chimu culture. We shot the cover in the adobe ruins of "Chan Chan" near the city of Trujillo in the north of Peru. Chan Chan translates as "Sun Sun". I will also like to point out that I wasn't trying to appropriate the culture to sell my music. I have a special connection with Peru and its people and according to my father my great grandfather was from the north of Peru so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.
I am fighting for female empowerment and for humanity to wake up from its slumber and false programming. I got a little tired of seeing women being portrayed as sexual objects and wanted to create a positive image of women. You can be sexy without being vulgar and be strong without coming off frigid.
There's a song called "Art of Seduction". Can you share a couple of seduction tricks with us?
All singers are natural sirens and there is nothing more seductive than a siren. I believe that seducing the mind is more important than seducing through the eyes. There is nothing sexier than someone that stimulates your mind. But also your natural seduction abilities are enhanced when you are the one being seduced by another. It's a reciprocal thing and it's also much more fun that way.
And finally - what's the best way to listen to your album? When? Where?
My album comes out Tuesday, April 11th. We are releasing it digitally and on vinyl. The vinyl came out beautiful: it is transparent purple and comes with a digital download card and it sounds divine. It can come signed by me if requested on the website.
We'll be having a release party in New York the week of April 11th. And we'll be performing the record live, so keep an eye open over here.
