Memphis rockers get political on their new LP 'This is All Pretend.'
Memphis rockers Pillow Talk — purveyors of lo-fi rock and dreamy soundscapes — create music that’s both a push and pull of internal struggle and battles with society’s wrongs in general. The band recently premiered the song "Little Worries" from the band’s LP, This Is All Pretend, which was produced by Matt Talbot of Hum, and is out today via Animal Style Records.
Band members Joshua Cannon, Calvin Lauber, Kevin Gibson, Bailey Patterson and Sam Leathers donated all the proceeds of the “pay what you want” track to Trans Lifeline for a limited time as a response to the Trump administration’s decision to rescind protections for transgender students who wanted to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity.
“This song particularly means a lot to me — writing it helped me through a tough time. It’s a song about misplaced guilt and the voices in your head that continually speak falsehoods about your worth. It’s also a song about stepping into your truth despite that mental and emotional isolation and becoming who you’re meant to be,” Cannon says. He adds, “If we aren’t doing our most to lift those up who are oppressed, we aren’t doing enough. This is a small way for us to do our part, and an opportunity for us to walk in that belief.”
