Texas DJ gets lowdown and dirty with the crunkstep.

Hometown: I grew up in the very small town of Boerne, TX but it’s probably not small anymore! Every time I go back to visit they’re always building something new.

Homebase: Austin, TX. Best parts are the food and gigabit internet.

What exactly does Crizzly mean?

It basically is my real name. Chris + Lee = Crizzly

Describe your style of music to someone who'd never heard you before.

Crunk, hip hop, trap, loud, turnt, epic, bass, booty, twerk, ratchet, fuck shit up.

Did you always want to be a DJ?

[I knew I wanted to be a DJ at] my friend’s 15th birthday. She had a DJ playing for her party but he wasn’t playing what we really wanted to hear. So I made my grandmother drive me back to my house real quick and get my CD case with all my music. I ended up picking songs the rest of the night.[laughs]

What do you like better, DJing or producing?

That’s a tough one but I honestly enjoy both the same! Each one is an escape for me. DJing is great when I need to get a bunch of energy out and let loose. Producing is the best when I just want to be alone and ignore the world. I can get lost for hours tweaking nobs and creating something weird.

What was your first EDM experience like?

My first EDM experience was actually on the Myspace Music Tour with Justice! The first ever DJ I saw was the late and great DJ Mehdi. His set was so energetic and funky. I specifically remember him getting on the side of the stage closest to where I was and making everyone clap. He looked like he was having so much fun!

Who are your musical inspirations?

*NSYNC, Rammstein, Depeche Mode, The Chemical Brothers, Michael Jackson, Linkin Park, M.I.A., Daft Punk, Goriilaz, and Waka Flocka.

What's your relationship with Prismo? How did you end up collaborating?

He’s a young aspiring producer out of Texas just like I was. I heard his music through some friends. He’s always working on music so I kept asking him to send over some ideas. He sent one over and I just went in on it.

Who else would you love to work with?

I’d love to make something with the legend Lil John. We’ve crossed paths a few times but I was way younger. He’s honestly the best to remix. His vocals are always an instant hit with the crowd.

What do you when you're not DJing?

For fun I’ll usually be playing some Rocket League. It’s my new favorite game. I think I like it so much because it’s just like soccer, the sport I grew up playing as a kid. My brain is wired to be competitive like that. But if I’m not playing that game I’m either surfing the internet or cooking/cleaning.

Do you have a fun Myspace story to tell as a musician?

I used to keep in contact with one of my favorite bands Kanute on Myspace. I would message them and enter every competition they had. I remember being so lost when it came to making music but they gave me just the right advice to help me overcome some major hurdles. It was life changing being able to connect with an artist I looked up to.
