Jessica Chastain is here to remind you why she’s Jessica Chastain.

Though the actress has not won an Academy Award (yet), she received two nominations and will perhaps gain a third for Molly’s Game, Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut about Olympian-turned-underground-poker-tycoon Molly Bloom. In EW’s exclusive new clip from the film, Chastain shows once again why we shouldn’t count her out of best-of considerations.

Based on the true story of Bloom, the film alternates between her past (assembling some of the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker games) and the present, where she’s suffering through an FBI investigation into her inadvertent dealings with Russian mobsters.

In the clip, Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba), Bloom’s ethically minded lawyer, has gone through hoops to defend her character and is now looking for some honest answers from his client. It’s a moment that gets to the heart of what Sorkin, known for his dialogue-heavy scripts for Steve Jobs and The Social Network, is trying to achieve with the story of Bloom.

Amid a year of stellar performances by women — some of which include Frances McDormand in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Saoirse Ronan in Lady Bird — Chastain still manages to stand out.
