US star has appeared in the legal drama since 2011
Suits star Meghan Markle has suggested that she is leaving the show after the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry.
Earlier today, news broke of Prince Harry’s engagement to US actress Markle, with the wedding set to take place in the spring of next year.
In their first interview announcing the news, Markle discussed how her life would change following the news, suggesting that she’s made a decision to leave Suits. She has starred as Rachel Zane in the legal drama since 2011.
“I don’t see [my engagement] as giving anything up, I just see it as a change,” Markle told BBC News. “It’s a new chapter. Also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on my show [Suits] for seven years.”
“We’re very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. Once we hit the 100 episode marker, I thought, ‘You know, I have ticked this box’. I feel really proud of the work that I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work as a team [with Harry].”
Meanwhile, Downing Street have confirmed that there are “no plans” for a bank holiday around next year’s Royal Wedding.
Despite initial excitement that the event may be cause for a public holiday, as with 2011’s Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prime Minister’s spokesman have now quashed speculation.
