We caught up with the Dutch trio and mostly talked about "Sex," baby.

They’re Not Associated With Kris Kross

Despite causing some serious Spotify confusion, the '90s-loving trio simply wanted to pay tribute to some of their favorite old-school musicians when they picked their own stage name.

“The brothers called their party Kris Kross because they missed the music from the '90s,” Yuki Kempees explains. “And suddenly they were getting booked as DJs. Eventually I met them, we added ‘Amsterdam’ to the name and took it from there. It was the exact right name for what we were trying to do with the party: it was crisscross throughout all genres and all the hits. It also captured that '90s feeling.”

Kris Kross Do Approve Though

“We had contacted the real Kris Kross,” Sander Huisman assures us. “They said that they love the fact that we’re using their name and even said that we could collaborate one day.”

Spotify Does Make It Harder

Surprisingly, no one ever tried booking Kris Kross Amsterdam assuming he was talking to the original Kris Kross. “But there’s a problem with Spotify,” Kempees sighs. “We made a Britney Spears remix and it shows up on Kris Kross’ profile instead of ours.”

They Conquered the World with Sex

Kris Kross Amsterdam finally went global when they teamed up with American producers Cheat Codes to put a modern spin on Salt-n-Pepa’s “Let’s Talk About Sex.” The single, entitled “Sex,” was released in February last year and quickly gained a massive following across the globe. Sex sells, who would have thought?!

“We took the chorus from the 25-year-old song and now we see some comments on Youtube from younger people accusing Salt-n-Pepa of “stealing our song.”

Salt-n-Pepa should be more than okay with some light online trolling given these royalty checks they’re getting from their Dutch admirers.
