Song or Artist Who Inspired You to Become a Musician: I love Ryan Tedder as a performer. The way that he interacts with the crowd and carries himself on stage is great and I love watching him. As far as singers go, I grew up listening to Peter Gabriel and Genesis and love those guys. Coldplay has also been a huge inspiration for me.
On Being in a Band With Your Brothers: We go through tough times where we drive one another crazy, but I think that’s the difference. Being family, we all still love each other. I can’t say “I hate you and never want to see you again,” because then I’d still have to see him at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Favorite Song to Play Live: The first song in our set is called “All I Need Is You.” It just feels good to me, even though it’s not a crazy song where you jump up and down. It was on our very first EP, and it’s the only song of our original set that we still play.
Favorite Performance You’ve Ever Had: That one time Nich fell off the stage.
(Nich: I was playing and the back leg of my drum throne fell off of the riser. Not only did I fall off of the riser, but a good five feet off the stage itself.)
Zach: The drums had just cut out. I turned around, and he was just gone, but then I saw him poke his head up from behind the stage. It was hilarious.
Nich: It hurt, though.)
Favorite Performance You’ve Ever Seen: I saw Coldplay this year which was huge since they’re one of my influences. When I go to concerts, I feel like I have my phone out the entire time because I’m basically taking notes — what they did, props they used, and the structure of the setlist. I love learning and seeing how other bands use their time to interact with the crowd.
Guilty Pleasure: My nerdism is a bit different. I’d prefer probably to not go outside and instead sit in front of a tv either watching movies or playing video games. I love sci-fi video games, like Destiny, and movies like Star Trek and Star Wars.
