The swanky trio will get you moving from the first beat.

After bringing their sultry sound across the country while on tour with CeeLo Green, Nikki’s Wives certainly seem like a band ready for their breakout. Frontwoman Nikki Whitehead may be the star of the future, but she doesn’t want to go anywhere without her two trustworthy bandmates.

“I was always a little uncomfortable being a solo artist. There’s just something about being up there on stage when it’s just you that’s not as fun. With the three of us on stage there’s this great chemistry, and collaborating with people whom you already have a connection with is so fun.”

Myspace caught up with Nikki’s Wives to snag some photos and get to know them a little bit better.

Dylan Lauzon, 27

Instrument: Guitar and keyboard
Song or Band Who Inspired You to Become a Musician: I draw a lot of inspiration from big, anthemic rock — the stuff that was coming out of [Los Angeles] in the ‘80s. I always try to go forward in time and listen to new things, but I always find myself going back there.
Favorite Song to Perform Live: We stretch out and take our time when we perform. I think “Fight Song” is about three minutes longer live than it is on the record, and to see people get it and understand where we’re going with it is the funnest part about playing those songs.
Favorite Performance You’ve Had: Back in February, we did this Victoria’s Secret Super Bowl party out in San Francisco. It was our first moment and there was so much stress and so much pressure, but after we finished, it felt so good. It was such a fun party.
Pre-Performance Rituals: We do this thing together. It’s almost like a moment of silence for all of the bands that we’ve slain over the course of our tours.
Things You Do In Your Downtime: It’s weird, because this used to be all of our hobbies, like going home and playing guitar. Now we finish a tour and it’s kind of still my only hobby, to just go home and write songs and play my guitar. We never really stop.
Guilty Pleasure: Never working out. I don’t exactly feel guilty, I actually take a lot of pleasure from sitting on the couch and doing absolutely nothing. I watch a lot of trash ‘80s action movies. Again — not guilty, but most people would feel terrible if they had to watch them with me. Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal, anything with a ponytail and back that gets broken over a knee, I’m into.

Nate Baylor, 28

Instrument: Drums and background vocals
Song or Band Who Inspired You to Become a Musician: I listen to a lot of Motown and a ton of ‘70s prog-rock music, so it’s a little bit different than what we tend to play.
Favorite Song to Perform Live: We change up the arrangements for all of our songs live — we’re big believers in giving people a different experience when they come to see us versus when they listen to the record. My favorite is called “Fight Song,” because we got this big drum for Nikki, and she and I have a drum battle. I win all the time, and she’s just sitting there looking stupid — but it’s a lot of fun! The crowd gets really into it.
Favorite Performance You’ve Had: Dylan nailed it right on the head.
Pre-Performance Rituals: We have a little prayer moment, but it’s almost sort of evil and demonic. We summon all of the evil spirits around to possess us and then we go out and unleash that strange, dark energy people. It’s one of those situations you’d have to be there for.
Things You Do In Your Downtime: Get drunk a lot. We don’t have a lot of downtime. Any time we have is spent songwriting and making sure that all of our stuff is in order. We don’t really have any hobbies anymore.
Guilty Pleasure: We have this philosophy that there’s no such thing as a musical guilty pleasure, so we’ll blast Backstreet Boys, Abba and things like that.
(Lauzon: I don’t feel guilty — shameless!)

Nikki Whitehead, 18

Instrument: Vocals
Song or Band Who Inspired You to Become a Musician: I listen to a lot of alternative artists, like Lana del Rey, Portishead. I grew up listening to girl rock, so a lot of the aggression that comes out in my voice — especially when I perform certain songs live — comes from that.
Favorite Song to Perform Live: It’s a new one we recently released called “Wanna Know.” It has this big vocal part and a big guitar solo. It’s a powerful song that’s really fun to sing. Because a lot of our songs are very structured, I don’t necessarily get to do what I want. On this song, I just get to be a singer, which is really fun.
(Baylor: She gets to show off a little bit.)
Favorite Performance You’ve Had: My favorite was the last show we did in San Francisco. The crowd was super into it, the room was packed, and the three of us were having so much fun on stage. It was just a great environment.
Pre-Performance Rituals: One time we didn’t do our ritual and the show was messed up, so now we have to do it every time.
Things You Do In Your Downtime: We see our family and friends but even after a couple of days I thought “I’m depressed that I’m here. I want to go back on tour.”
Guilty Pleasure: When I can’t sleep at night, I’ll start trying on outfits in my closet and walk around my house pretending I’m on a red carpet. But then I’m always tired after, so it helps me sleep!
