Get a taste of the ethereal, electro duo.

In TVRQUOISE's “Liar and the Fighter,”  singer Faye Wellman’s distinctive voice glides over melodic electronics for a dreamy hush of a track that explores the gray area of an unrequited romance.

In a way, 'Liar and the Fighter' is a conspiracy theory,” says Wellman of the song. “It’s a song about alleged unshared love; wanting someone who claims to not want you back. However, you refuse to believe it because all signs and actions tell a different story.”

The inspiration behind the track traces back to Wellman’s summer after high school. “A group of friends, including the person I was pretty much hopelessly in love with, jumped the fence to the neighborhood pool. I jumped in the pool and waited for him to follow — he never did. To an outsider, it seemed like a meaningless, passing moment, but within that moment I realized how symbolic this scenario was of our entire relationship,” she says. “Three years later I finally let go of the hope that he would come around and this song was written as a reflection.”

“Liar and the Fighter” came together over a number of months, with bandmate Matt Hogan helping to flesh out the ethereal opus. The appeal of electronic instrumentation is simple according to Wellman. “It’s great when you can create electronic music that still has that human touch — that’s important to us.”

The pair met during their last semester at Berklee and began collaborating soon after. Although they’ve been making music on their own since they were both 13, this batch of songs are the first original songs either has ever released publicly. “It takes a significant amount of time and dedication to craft your sound and from there, luck and fate to find someone you can collaborate with authentically,” says Wellman while reflecting on the ingredients at play. “We’re lucky enough to have found these things.”
