Because emo kids never say die.

When Taste of Chaos invaded San Bernardino last October, it proved that the so-called emo revival was very much a real thing.

The emo and pop punk music of a decade ago wasn't only popular enough to fill small clubs for "emo nights" around the country, but also to pack a massive festival for an entire day's worth of bands. This year, Taste of Chaos became a national tour featuring Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday, and it culminated in yet another day-long festival at the same location in sunny San Bernardino.

Myspace was on the ground to take it all in, dance, party, and cry our eyes out. Here are our eight favorite things that happened.

Your Favorite Band's Favorite Bands

Although most of the crowd was more interested in the 2000s bands than the couple from the '90s, the bulk of the bands were actually most looking forward to the sets from the Get Up Kids and Quicksand. "Who's Quicksand?" was probably the most commonly asked question of the day, and the correct answer seemed to be "Your favorite band's favorite band." Both of the older groups rocked their sets, and they likely opened a lot of eyes and ears of people who were still in elementary school when they were at their peaks.

Reggie Back Sunday/Hot Reggie Circuit

While we're on the subject of the Get Up Kids, James Dewees (emo's leading keyboardist) and his goofy side project Reggie and the Full Effect kicked off the day with one of the best sets of the afternoon. Aside from having the audience laughing, dancing, and rocking out the entire time, Dewees also brought up Taking Back Sunday's Adam Lazzara, his Get Up Kids bandmate Matt Pryor, and Hot Rod Circuit's Andy Jackson each show up to sing their featured parts of Reggie songs. As a part-time member of more Taste of Chaos-friendly bands than arguably anyone else, it's hard to believe Dewees won't be showing up at more emo-based festivals in the future.

The Seven Kingdoms of Saosin

Of all the bands performing before the sun went down, many of Taste of Chaos' attendees were most excited to see Saosin reunited with Anthony Green, and they weren't disappointed. But the highlight of Saosin's set for some people probably came before the group even set foot on the stage, as the band walked on to the rotating stage while the Game of Thrones theme song played over the PA system. Yeah, we could see them splitting the Seven Kingdoms, but who would get the Iron Throne?

Adam Lazzara's On-Stage Antics

Technically, Chris Carrabba got the final word of the Taste of Chaos tour (more on that later), but Adam Lazzara wasn't about to be out-performed. Aside from his usual mic-swinging routine, Lazzara entertained the audience with an extended speech about how he was the one they were listening to when they got their license/skipped class to smoke cigarettes/discovered their bodies in the back of their parents' cars (and later mentioned that the Get Up Kids were the ones who were there for him during that time). Between that and climbing the side of the stage/hanging upside down for "MakeDamnSure" (see grainy iPhone photo above), it was the kind of performance you'd expect out of a festival headliner.

Festival Rides

Here's a hot take: Music festivals are focusing too much on the mediocre/overpriced food as a secondary reason for people to attend and should actually have other attractions to take people's money. Governors Ball had mini golf (that was pretty sweet), and now Taste of Chaos busted out the giant slide and chair-swinging Yoyo. What better way to celebrate emo music than pretending you're sitting on the end of Adam Lazzara's microphone being swung around a giant metal frontman?

The Best of the Starting Line

Kenny Vasoli might be the most under-appreciated person to come out of the 2000s emo scene. He's a talented dude, and the Starting Line has always been a solid band. Sure, they didn't have the giant mega albums of Taking Back Sunday or the diehard fans of Brand New, but let's not forget that they're also the band who didn't reunite, but they were just "taking a break from taking a break" in 2009. In any event, their late-afternoon set at Taste of Chaos was great despite the ridiculous temperature.

Dashboard's Sweet Goodbye

Who better to put a day full of emo to bed than Chris Carrabba? Dashboard Confessional started the set with "Vindicated" and ended with "Hands Down." Somewhere in between, pretty much everyone in the audience either began bawling uncontrollably (likely during "Screaming Infidelities") or fell in love (likely with Carrabba, but the other musicians need some adoration too).

The Shade

Seriously though, it's way too hot in San Bernardino in July to be wearing all black.
