Which heroes and villains do you want to see?

NetherRealm Studios knows fighting games. The people that brought you Mortal Kombat wanted to prove that they understood more than just fireballs and fatalities by taking the DC Comics franchise and making a top-tier brawler with some of the most iconic characters in modern fiction. They did so, and they did it well, as Injustice: Gods Among Us is still one of the best fighters in the last decade with a sprawling roster of fan favorites. But all good things require a sequel, and after announcing the first few fighters right before E3, Comic-Con seems like the perfect place to debut two new characters to the roster. Here are our choices for characters we want to see announced at this year’s convention!

The Riddler

One of the best things about Injustice was its ability to balance mere mortals and literal gods. Sure, Superman could punch Riddler in the face and end his life within mere seconds, but the game gives humans a counter with gadgets and technology. And while The Joker had the market cornered on goofy toys, The Riddler could really ramp the odds and ends up to another level, with some kryptonite laced bullets for Supes or a giant fish tank for Aquaman. The game has always had a history of great voice actors, so a sniveling Riddler with quips on top of quips would make for some quality replay value, given the fantastic job Wally Wingert did in the Arkham games.

Darkseid

Forget the terrible Batman v. Superman movie that came out earlier this year. Seriously, do it. While that movie tried to tease the idea of Darkseid, it didn’t nearly do the ruler of Apokolips justice. He has crazy super powerful omega blasts; can go toe-to-toe with any of the mythical beings on the roster and is one of the most iconic villains in comic book history. He can raise the dead, fly, gain in size and strength and has been killed and reborn more times than a soap opera starlet. His intellect is also nearly unparalleled and while Doomsday is mostly brawn without any brain, Darkseid could make for the perfect foil in the over-arching narrative. It would be smart of Warner Bros. to introduce people to Darkseid in this medium before crafting a movie franchise around his evil exploits.

John Constantine

Video games need more smartass, wise-cracking anti-heros and John Constantine is among the best. Not necessarily known for his brawling, Constantine is a bisexual, chain smoking sorcerer that could use his wits to take apart his foes before they got the words “Please don’t!” out of their mouth. He also showed up in the Injustice comic series that the first game launched alongside, helping Batman find John’s daughter Rose and fight the good fight against Superman’s evil ways. Constantine would require some skill to make a formidable foe in a fighting game, but the team that made Erron Black badass in Mortal Kombat X should be able to take this demon-fighting detective and turn him into a hard counter to some of the most fearsome foes in the DC universe. If anything, it would give fans of the cancelled television show something to hang onto while they petition for a comeback run.

Firestorm

Given the popularity of the Flash and Green Arrow television shows, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see a lot of those characters make their way to this game. Firestorm is one such character, whose dual personality leads to some awkward and difficult moments in his life. The combined forces of Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch make up Firestorm’s identity and his powers are both awesome and tough to combat. He can change the atomic structure of objects, making some of those tech characters easily dealt with, but throw in super speed, flight and the ability to pass through nearly any object, and Firestorm could be a great character to main once the game comes out. The fact that he could have two voice actors would make for a unique gaming experience, as well.

Wonder Twins

Fans of the old-school Superfriends show will remember Zan and Jayna, teaming up to transform into living creatures and inanimate objects. Given the popularity of Shang Tsung in the MK universe, having characters that could turn into any other fighter on the roster and even more could make for some exciting matchups. They could measure up against any monstrosity the Lanterns whipped up with their rings or turn into a poison banana when fighting Gorilla Grodd. They might be a bit more obscure than the rest of this list, but their capabilities would be unparalleled if done right. They could even be the official “host” of DLC characters, turning into whichever hero of the month NetherRealm had up their sleeve.
