Ever wonder what happened to Ashlee Simpson & Mandy Moore? Yeah, us too.

Not everyone can be Britney, or Christina, but that doesn’t mean we don’t remember the hits of artists who only spent a brief moment in the limelight. Some of the artists on this list only had one hit. Others had a handful of hits in a short period of time. What they all have in common is that they’re pop princesses from the ‘90s and ‘00s who had incredibly short reigns.

Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee Simpson somehow survived her epic SNL faux pas (we all remember the backing vocals, wrong track playing, strange Irish jig incident), but she only had a few hits after that. It’s really too bad, because while she was around, she made us want to “La La.”

Mandy Moore

It hurts to put Mandy Moore on this list, but while “Candy” is a TRL classic, and “I Wanna Be with You” was a Top 30 hit, her growth as an artist made her stay in the pop world a short one.

Michelle Branch

Much like Mandy Moore, Michelle Branch grew into doing different genres of music, but while she was in the pop world, she was “Everywhere.”

Vanessa Carlton

Cardio queen Vanessa Carlton may have walked “A Thousand Miles,” but she hasn’t found another song quite as epic during that journey.

Stacie Orrico

Stacie Orrico let us know “(There’s Gotta Be) More to Life,” and that’s why we were “Stuck” on her during her brief time in the limelight.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C made us “Smile” for a little while, and if you graduated from any school, be it high school, grade school, or preschool, in 1999, you heard her “Graduation (Friends Forever),” and probably have fond memories of it.

Hoku

Hoku let it be known she wasn’t just “Another Dumb Blonde.” Sadly, and a bit ironically, the Legally Blonde soundtrack song “Perfect Day,” was the only time she had another big hit.

Willa Ford

In one of the strangest collaborations of all-time, Willa Ford burst onto the scene with “I Wanna Be Bad,” which featured Bad Meets Evil emcee Royce da 5’9’’. There’s no word on what Willa wants to be now.

t.A.T.u.

Admission: t.A.T.u. are one of my favorite pop groups of all time. I think the albums they released in Russia are fantastic. That said, after “All The Things She Said,” that was all she wrote for them in America. It’s really too bad, they’ve made some fantastic music over the years.

Christina Milian

Christina Milian’s first album, which featured “AM to PM,” was pushed back, and eventually shelved in America, due to the 9/11 attacks occurring two weeks before it was set to hit stores. She’d score a hit a few years later with “Dip It Low,” but Milian has found far more success in acting, and hosting.

Jennifer Paige

For a moment, we all had a “Crush” on Jennifer Paige.

JoJo

JoJo’s limited time in the spotlight had less to do with music, and more to do with contractual issues with her label. She was recently able to “Leave (Get Out)” of that situation, so a second chance at success may be on the way.

Samantha Mumba

Hopefully, whatever Samantha Mumba had to tell you, she said quickly, because we haven’t heard from her since this bouncy pop gem.

Lumidee

On off-key classic, Lumidee’s “Never Leave You (Uh Oh)” ruled the summer of 2003. The song’s title, however, would prove to be false, as she left the pop world just as quickly as she burst onto the scene.

Nina Sky

Nina Sky made you “Move Ya Body,” and then they almost immediately moved out of the spotlight. The twin sister duo are still recording music in other genres.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

The '90s were a time when actresses were given record deals. Jennifer Love Hewitt was one of those actresses. She had moderate success with the song “How Do I Deal,” but eventually decided to focus on acting.

Lindsay Lohan

Speaking of actresses who were given album deals, Lindsay Lohan released a decent amount of music at the height of her fame. That window closed—at least temporarily—as her life became tabloid fodder, but she could always make a comeback. We hear she’s working on a new album, although that could just be a bunch of “Rumors.”

Cassie

P. Diddy’s “it” girl never really became his “hit” girl, although if you put on “Me & U” it will still get people movin'.

Kiley Dean

A former backup singer for Britney Spears, Kiley Dean worked with Timbaland on a full-length album. After hearing “Make Me A Song,” it’s a bit of a mystery as to why she didn’t blow up.

Vanessa Hudgens

Another actress who was given an album deal. Anyone who knows me knows how big of a Vanessa Hudgens fan I am, but I have to include her on this list, because while she sang “Come Back To Me,” after a few other songs she didn’t come back to the pop world (and after seeing Sucker Punch, and Spring Breakers, I can’t argue with her decision).

Nikka Costa

Perhaps a bit ahead of her time, Nikka Costa hit the pop charts, but had some serious soul. With songs like “Like A Feather,” she paved the way for quite a few modern pop greats.
