The Canadian songstress worked her way up from a small town to stardom with her newest club banger “Give Me Twenty.” Myspace caught up with the rising electro-pop star to discuss her career path, the story behind her catchy moniker and how many donuts she’d like to share with us.

What’s your story?

Small town girl of a town of 500 people, I moved to Los Angeles to follow my dreams. They call me "Novel" because I'm quite the story! 

So what is this story exactly? Is Novel your real name?

My real name is Sammantha Novlan. When I came out to Los Angeles, I was in the studio with Poet Name Life of the Black Eyed Peas and I had all these songs written in a book and he said, “You’re quite the story.” Small town girl, coming to LA, these lyrics and my last name being Novlan... It just stuck ever since, so now I go by Novel.

If you didn’t end up becoming a singer, what would be the Plan B? 

I never like to think of having plan Bs, haha! Whenever someone asks me that, I feel like they are already doubting and not believing in someone's Plan A. But if I had to think of a plan B, then I'd probably want to do a career that involved kids. I love kids! 

What was your favorite record when you were 13?

My favorite record when I was 13 would probably be Cher "Believe." I remember dancing around in my room pretending I was her and just slaying! 

Tell me everything we need to know your newest club banger “Give Me Twenty.”

Basically deep down this song is about respecting yourself and making girls and guys aware of your worth. Why do you need some guy in the club to make you feel special for one night when you can go and make a difference in your life and have those things every day. 

What’s the best gig you ever had? 

The best gig I've ever did and probably will never forget is my very first live television performance. I was just 12 years old, and I remember after my performance Robin Thicke's mom Gloria Loring came out and said I did such a fabulous job and I looked so cute in my red cowboy boots. 

If I ask YOU to give me twenty right now, what would you do?

I'd probably give you twenty donuts.

What’s the best way to stay fit? Dancing? Lovemaking? Dancing while lovemaking?

I can't tell all my secrets. But I definitely have to run every day while singing... You know, I got to keep that breath support up!

What’s the best thing to do on a Friday night? And on a Saturday morning?

Best thing for me to do on a Friday night is to hang out with someone you really care about, whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend or friends. And I would have to say the best thing to do Saturday morning is to wake up with that someone and go get some fatty breakfast!

You have 30 minutes to organize a house party. What do you do? 

Well it would definitely have to be a theme party, so I'd have to set up for the theme and then probably hit up one of my DJ friends to come over to really make the party popping!

What are your plans for the summer?

My plans this summer [are] setting up for my next single release called "All I Wanna Be Is Loved," and I got my Nexus radio tour! So stay tuned.
