This week we're crawling into our bunker to read listicles recounting this truly awful year. See you in January... Hopefully.
Some Good News
Recommended Pairing: A handful of MDMA and a sparkling water.
People are probably going to be fine. Even with the madness of the current political landscape, on a personal level, we'll still find ways to be courteous, help each other and make one another laugh. Stories of people being friendly and sharing in positive discourse don't make for good ratings, but I've seen it, it's happening outside.
Apart from the police shootings, record temperatures and celebrity deaths, the past year had some great things to offer. There was the month where Pokemón Go was popular, perennial underdogs ruled the sports scene and aside from the glaringly racist examples — it was actually a great year for memes, gifs, sketch comedy, television, and other odds and ends that keep me perpetually browsing the internet as a haven from the haunting cruelty of the real world. Here are a few of my favorites from 2016 in no particular order. Give 'em a watch before the Earth explodes!
WestWorld: A show perfectly crafted for our binge watching culture, handed to us one week at a time. An incredibly satisfying slow burn.
Game of Thrones: One of the few things in existence that nearly everyone can agree on. It's fun to watch.
Everything up to the finale of Fargo Season 2: Still pumped for next season, though. Now with 88% more bacon and Jim Gaffigan!
in the blue shirt - Cluster A: An infectious little diddy that brought me out of countless mini-funks.
Alec Baldwin's Trump: The irony is everyone thought Trump sounded like a bad impression of Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock.
Ross Marquand - Celebrity Nano-Impressions: Surprisingly delightful.
Bad Lip Reading - SEAGULLS! (Stop It Now): A genuinely good jam that's genuinely hysterical. I died during the breakdown when Yoda recounts his encounter with a log.
Feel free to post your favorite little digital footmarks from the past year in the comments.
'Til next year.
