NYC-based twosome go red for sixth, and final, video from their ‘Merge’ EP.

When the Heirsound duo of Alexa San Román and Dane Peterson released their debut EP, Merge, they didn’t just release an album, they released a multimedia project. With each each song represented by a color that has an aura, and a feeling, San Román and Peterson set out to make a video for all six songs, with each video embracing the color theme.

Five videos later, all produced by San Román, Heirsound have completed the sixth, and final, video from Merge, which is for their latest single, “Choke.”

Myspace has the exclusive premiere of the video for “Choke,” which will have viewers, quite literally, seeing red.

Wanting to know more about the video, and the song, we caught up with San Román to ask her about both.

Tell us about the inspiration behind "Choke." Does it have ANYTHING to do with the Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name?

[laughs] No, it does not! “Choke” is actually the oldest song on the EP, so we feel like, of all them, this one bridges the gap between our old band (Love, Robot) and Heirsound the best.

Lyrically it is about death, and being aware of it, which usually isn't a topic people are thinking about every second of every day, and I think that's why when somebody dies it's always such a shock. Everyone likes to pretend it's not real, but then when a sudden tragedy strikes, it hits us really hard.

You’re dealing with a lot in this song. What was the writing process like?

It was pretty natural. This song kind of just fell out. Instrumentally, Dane and I wrote it together first, and then we tackled the lyrics together afterwards. We like to try and write Heirsound songs together.

All of your videos have a corresponding color as a theme. What makes the color red a perfect fit for "Choke?"

Choosing red for “Choke” was a no brainer. The whole death theme kind of just felt red to us.

Now that all the songs have videos out it really makes you visualize each color when you listen to the EP.
