Sorry Coachella, but we think the NYC fest's got you beat this year.

It might still be cold for most of the country, but you can already hear the rumblings. Once the calendar flips to the new year, the festival preseason begins.

As always, longstanding and internationally known huge festivals like Coachella have plenty of amazing bands on their schedules, but it's looking more and more like the ever-growing festival culture is going to be run just a little bit more by the other guys in 2016.

Multi-day festivals like Atlanta's Shaky Knees Festival and Phoenix's Pot of Gold Music Festival are bringing in big names like Future, At the Drive-In, and My Morning Jacket, creating more evenly spread music festivals throughout the country.

Quite frankly, the general consensus on this year's Coachella lineup is that it leaves a bit to be desired unless you're a fan of electronic music and/or a Guns n' Roses fanboy. For instance, plenty of folks out there believe the Governors Ball in New York is putting on at least as good of a musical weekend as Coachella, but with less hype and less strain on your wallet.

Since we don't entirely disagree with that sentiment, here are 5 reasons the Governors Ball lineup is better than Coachella's this year.

Less EDM

There's nothing wrong with a little electronic music at a festival. Even when Coachella dedicated an entire tent to it, no one really had a problem with it. But when the bulk of your performers and two of your headliners are electronic acts (albeit, very different ones), you may have crossed the line. If Coachella wants to rebrand itself as EDC Indio, that's cool. For now, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival may want to consider putting a little less focus on turntables before it becomes a one-genre show. It might also help with that whole "spoiled white kids wearing culturally insensitive headdresses" thing too.

SWISH

Love him or hate him, Kanye West makes anything he touches that much bigger and more popular. When you then consider that his first scheduled (as of now) performance following next month's release of his long awaited SWISH is at the Governors Ball, there's no reason to think it won't be one of the most exciting sets of the year. Sure it might mean some people are there primarily to see Ye, but with the number of young rappers featured in the lineup, they should be able to entertain themselves for most of the three days and might even become a fan of someone they'd never heard of before.

Variety

This is arguably the biggest difference between the two. While Coachella focuses mainly on a couple genres and allows its reputation and name to draw in the other fans, the Governors Ball boasts some legitimately big names in almost every genre. From Elle King and HAIM to Against Me! and Death Cab for Cutie, pop and rock will be very well represented in New York this summer. As far as hip hop goes, the young guns like Vince Staples and Vic Mensa will be showing their skills alongside some of the more established names like Action Bronson and Mac Miller. Oh, and then there's the legends known as De La Soul performing. Across most genres, the Governors Ball covers the bases.

The Strokes/Killers

If you're a fan of alternative from the early aughts, both of these bands are probably pretty exciting to see live again. Sure, Julian Casablancas and Albert Hammond Jr. (who's also performing solo at the Governors Ball) have been doing their own things, but both lack the gritty elemental rock that fans long to hear from the Strokes once again. For fans of the Killers, Brandon Flowers' solo shows often provided a few of the hits, but it'll still be better to see the band in its entirety again. Its the only currently announced shows for the Strokes and the only ones outside of Las Vegas for the Killers, so fans of both bands should be stoked for the weekend.

No Guns n' Roses

Really though, the Guns n' Roses reunion is something that virtually no one has asked for in roughly a decade. Axl Rose doesn't sound the same, none of them have the same dangerous attitudes that made them stand out in the first place. Aside from their possible lackluster performance, April is still a few months away, so who knows if GnR will even still be together by that point. Actually, it would be pretty cool if they played Weekend One and then imploded either on stage or immediately after and didn't perform the second weekend. It would finally make all the hype for the first weekend worth it.
