The action star and producer made the announcement on Facebook.

Universal Studios has greenlit three more Fast and Furious films, according to star Vin Diesel. "I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga," Vin, who has helped produce the franchise since 2008, said Friday on Facebook. On Sunday he gave another update:

All weekend long, my producing partner Neal, the Studio and myself have been mapping out the future of our SAGA... All aspects of the trilogy, including the announcement of it's [sic] respective directors, which is only building our excitement. I am really enjoying this process... but what gives me a unique sense of pride is that you all have been a part of it. To hear them reference the comments you contribute to Our page is truly amazing.

Vin's posts also seem to respond to a recent Hollywood Reporter story, "Furious 8 Stuck at the Starting Line: Universal's Director Dilemma." Anonymous sources claimed that Vin was tough to work with during Furious 7, whether critiquing action sequences or being consulted on Furious 8's director.

(James Wan agreed to direct Furious 7 but said immediately that he wouldn't return for Furious 8 so he could direct a sequel to 2013's The Conjuring instead. Furious 7 was also a tougher job than he bargained; he had to rewrite the entire script after Paul Walker's untimely death.)

Vin confirmed that Universal has yet to find a director for Furious 8. He even admitted that he may be why. But it's tough to argue with how much he seems to care about the franchise, and not just for how much money it makes.

"My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled," he says on Facebook.
