Is this a peace offering from MTV, or what?

Exciting news: Nicki Minaj will open the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. MTV promises "another jaw-dropping performance" from Nicki, who opened last year with the live debut of "Anaconda." She is rumored to debut another song this year—this time, the Lunchmoney Lewis-featuring "Trini Dem Girls," off her third album The Pinkprint.

But even if she wasn't performing, Nicki is about to make headlines just for showing up. Last month, she asked MTV why "Feeling Myself" wasn't nominated and the record-breaking "Anaconda" wasn't up for the highest honor: "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."

Taylor Swift faced a slew of criticism for responding, after thinking she was being called out: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other." Meanwhile Miley Cyrus, this year's VMAs host, recently came after Nicki for what she said.

"What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind," Miley said to The New York Times. "It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war."

Here's to hoping that Nicki says something, to either MTV or Miley, at this year's awards show.
