Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran have been favorites for bidders, even though both artists have denied the rumors. But, up until the Radiohead bid, Ellie Goulding was the frontrunner. Goulding was spotted Monday leaving Abbey Road Studios, where Adele recorded the 2012 title track for Skyfall, though spokesperson said she actually recorded her new album there.

The BBC reached out to Radiohead to see whether the band recorded the Spectre theme. A spokeperson said he had "no comment."
