Remakes, remakes everywhere.
It was 1999, She's All That was in theaters and dreamboat Freddie Prinze Jr. was on the cover of every teen mag you can think of (...or can't think of—most of them have since folded). Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me" was on repeat. All your friends knew the dance sequence to Fatboy Slim's "Funk Soul Brother" by heart. And all that distracted your teenage self from the fact that the film's Pygmalionesque plot—school hunk takes a bet he can transform a girl (Rachel Leigh Cook) from art geek to prom queen—has been done over and over again.
The movie cost $10 million to make and earned $103,166,989 at the box office. She's All That also starred Mathew Lillard, Paul Walker, Usher, Anna Paquin, Kieran Culkin, Gabrielle Union, Milo Ventimiglia, Alexis Arquette and more.
TheWrap.com is now reporting that a remake of She's All That is in the works. No other details are available at the moment, other than the detail that the cast will be diverse (...we'll see) and that the film will be directed by Kenny Leon, who helmed the 2012 television movie remake of Steel Magnolias, a couple episodes of Private Practice and lots of Broadway productions.
