Nostalgia rules.
Yesterday we had the news that Full House might be coming back with Fuller House. Today we're learning that ABC is in the midst of reviving The Muppet Show with The Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady set to pen the script.
The classic variety show with Kermit, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Doctor Teeth, the Swedish Chef, and co. aired on television from 1976 through 1981, followed by several successful Muppets movies and cartoon series. The Muppet Show often welcomed celebrity cameos—which, given today's Fallon-esque, viral-driven television environment, this could probably work out real well for the Muppets.
Exhibit A: These music parodies the official Muppets YouTube channel released a few years ago. This "Bohemian Rhapsody" parody has 44.8 million views and counting:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, while further details on the Muppet Show remake have not yet been released, the show promises the return of all major characters—however, the show won't move foward "unless Miss Piggy signs on."
