Giving the world what it wants: More superheroes.

All Spider-Man, all the time. Sony announced today that they'll be releasing an animated film starring the popular Marvel hero on July 20, 2018. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 22 Jump Street) will be writing and producing the film. The news was released during Sony Pictures chairman Tim Rothman's presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada—and no, he didn't answer the actual Spidey-related question on anyone's minds: What's going to happen next in the live-action Spider-Man films?

Before Marvel got into the movie-making business, they licensed Spider-Man to Sony Pictures, which prevented Spidey from joining the party after Marvel started making their own blockbuster movies. In a deal announced in February, Spider-Man will finally be joining the Marvel cinematic universe with his buds Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the rest of the gang. Marvel confirmed that Spider-Man will be appearing in an unnamed Marvel movie next that will take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After that, the next Spider-Man film will be released on July 28, 2017.

With all the debate on whether the next Spider-Man should be black or white, Peter Parker or Miles Morales, fans are still eagerly anticipating any—any—details on the next film.
