Sigh.

It was really, really, really convincing (and exciting), but Avengers: Age of Ultron director/writer Joss Whedon has confirmed that the "leaked" end credits scene featuring a cheeky exchange between a high-rise window washer and Spider-Man is, indeed, fake.

During a recent Avengers: Age of Ultron press conference in London, Whedon shattered a gazillion hearts when he said, "Yeah, that's not real. I don't know where that started. I don't know who came up with it. We wanted to be clear there was no tag scene at the very end of the film because after sitting through 40 minutes of credits and not seeing anything we thought people would be irate. No, I don't know where that started."

The fake scene was uploaded to YouTube by user Spider AoU on April 19 and has accumulated more than 1,439,099 views since. Watch below and see what could've been.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters May 1 in North America.
