Someone's got a movie to promote after all.
For whatever reason, Yolandi Visser—one-half of South African "rap rave" group Die Antwoord—decided to call Drake a homophobic slur on Instagram.
Both Drake and Die Antwoord are on the lineup for traveling music fest, Future Music Festival, that's currently journeying through Australia right now, which we're sure is going to make for some awkward encounters at catering.
Visser launched her strange attack three days ago via Instagram, posting a black and white image of Drake with the sentence "I'm a massive f*ggot" on it. Caption: "Fuk. Drake was kak," kak being South African slang for shit.
Die Antwoord's currently starring in CHAPPiE, a sci-fi film directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) about a robot with a heart of gold. Tour drama? Maybe. Publicity ploy? Probably.
As Stereogum points out, Die Antwoord's own DJ is gay, which doesn't really mean they get to use homophobic slurs, but okay. In a 2011 Huffington Post interview, Die Antwoord member Ninja declared that Die Antwoord isn't homophobic:
"I’d like to set the record straight here once and for all. Number one: DJ Hi-Tek is gay. So there you go. Now you all know. Number two: Dj Hi-Tek says the word faggot doesn’t hold any power over him. Hi-Tek says faggot all the time cause he’s like, kind of taken that word and made it his bitch. Number three: Just to be fucking clear, the Antwoord is not homophobic… Number four: It comes across to us that some people from America are heavy sensitive about the use of certain words. But the thing is, what you need to understand is, we’re not from America. We’re from South Africa. And South Africa people aren’t so pumped up about these words."
Unfortunately for both Ninja and Visser, outlets are now reporting that Ninja allegedly posted the same image on his own Instagram but deleted it afterward.
