The rapper/model is working on her debut album and has been championed by the likes of Chris Brown.
Chynna Rogers, simply known by her moniker “Chynna,” is a Philadelphia native rapper-slash-model who has achieved a level of success unknown. Historically, breakthrough musicians become interesting to leaders in other industries. Subsequently, the mild transition into being an alternative or feature model is a thing. This go ‘round, we’re witnessing a rarity. We're here to teach you about Chynna’s previous aspirations, her views on buddhism, loss music and more. Below are 10 things you should know about the Philly artist.
She Wasn’t Initially Interested in Modeling
According to Chynna, she had “no interest in it” at all. She was at an amusement park, hanging out when a woman approached her to convince her to think about the opportunity. Turns out that woman was an equivalent to an A&R for Ford Models. Of course, she knew about the top modeling agency because she was an avid watcher of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. She recalls the process of signing to the agency the next day as “being a blur” and “kind of regrets it” all happening so quickly. She didn’t really do too much work with them because, at the time, she was 14 years old and attending high school in Philadelphia.
She Has a Relationship with DKNY
it's official! I'm walking for dkny this Sunday as well as performing at their after party. #nyfw nigga we made it!

Her time with Ford was short lived but when she was working with them, because of her height, she was placed in the women’s division. Since then, she’s been in a DKNY’s Summer 2015 campaign with friends, performed at one of their shows and walked for them last year during NYFW.
She Likes to DJ
Still a novice working to perfect this side of her, Chynna finds DJing to be fun. In need of making money when she lived in London last year, she started to DJ because they paid more in comparison to the States. When she’s in the zone, she likes to play Trap music (especially, Future and Migos); however, if she’s in the appropriate setting she’d play a bunch of bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead and Portishead. Before performing, Chynna has to listen to her set in headphones. Also, she has to have Smartwater and green tea ginger ale.
Chris Brown Tweeted About Her Music
Glenn cocco : CHYNA got barz!!!!!
— Chris Brown (@chrisbrown) May 19, 2015
In May, singer Chris Brown tweeted about Rogers’ Cloud Atrium-produced banger “Glen Coco,” which is without a traditional hook—just plenty of amazing bars. In a response, she requested to hear "Fine China" live once and to write his raps for him.
She’s a Buddhist
She doesn’t really consider Buddhism a religion. According to Chynna, it’s more about perfecting yourself and living the best life that you can live. Instead of telling you what you shouldn’t do, it encourages you to do the things that you should. She likes the idea that if you do wrong, you’re not punished for it. “There’s none of that,” she says. She’s not a perfect Buddhist but she tries her best to see the good in people and be as positive as she can be.
She’s Dating Dame Dash’s Nephew, Da$h
Fellow rapper and beau, Da$h is Chynna’s boyfriend. They have a new song together called, “Highway 66”.
She’s Worked with Hudson Mohawke, a Producer Who is Signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music
Since starting her music career, Chynna has amassed support from many prominent figures in today’s popular musical landscape, including recent Kanye West signee, Hudson Mohawke. To date, he’s produced a track titled “MadeInChynna” for the young rising star, but in a recent New York Times article, she revealed that she wants to work with him again in the near future; hopefully for her debut album. She credits him as the who has helped her “jump out of her shell. He pushes buttons that no one else really pushes.” She really respects his work.
She has a new project out called, 'I’m Not Here. This Isn’t Happening'
Earlier this year, Chynna released a 7-track mixtape featuring production by Langsta, Cloud Atrium, VERY RVRE, 5th Dmnsn and KRASH. She was inspired to name it I’m Not Here. This Isn’t Happening, because it’s how she felt when she discovered that previously recorded music was deleted. It was an emotional rollercoaster for her. She cried for weeks. Within two weeks, she re-recorded what she could salvage. It also just happens to be a line from Radiohead’s “How to Disappear Completely.”
Her Debut Album is Coming
She’s been working on her debut album and is closely engaged with her managers. Unfortunately, she lost plenty of music that she wanted to release by way of a failed hard drive. She’s back at square one with a “fresh, new concept.”
She’s Blind
She can only see the first three rows of people when she’s onstage. Everyone else looks like a blur to her. She revealed that she’s thinking about getting laser eye surgery because she aspires to have 20/20. She wants to get her pilot license! In the past, she wanted to go to the military for that purpose.
